Job Description:

About Newton Russell

Newton Russell builds the future of risk and compliance for financial services. Our platform, Brontë, powers critical risk and compliance workflows across banking, insurance and broader financial services. We move fast. We build in person. We back our people to do their best work.

Why this role exists

Brontë implements dense regulatory requirements as operational workflow for financial institutions. Two things have to happen for that to work: those requirements, along with client processes and stakeholder input, have to be specified precisely enough for an engineering team to build from; and what gets built has to be verified against them before it reaches a client.

This role owns both, across defined product areas. You will run discovery, write the requirements that drive the build, and own functional testing and UAT for the same scope. Holding requirements and verification in one role removes the handover between them specifications are written by the person accountable for testing them, and defects are assessed by someone who already knows the intended behaviour.

What you'll do

Discovery and requirements
  • Run elicitation end-to-end: workshops, stakeholder interviews, process walkthroughs with internal teams and client-side risk and compliance functions.

  • Turn ambiguous problems into user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows and functional specs the engineering team can build from without guessing.

  • Map current and future-state processes; surface the gaps, manual workarounds and automation opportunities hiding inside them.

  • Write acceptance criteria that are genuinely testable, because you'll be the one writing the test cases against them.

Testing and quality
  • Design and maintain test cases and test suites from the requirements you wrote: functional, negative, boundary and regression coverage across your product areas.

  • Execute testing hands-on through the release cycle: feature verification, regression passes ahead of release, and post-release checks in production.

  • Test at the API layer as well as the UI: validate payloads, error handling and integration behaviour, not just what the screen shows.

  • Own defect management: reproduce, isolate, write defect reports an engineer can act on without a follow-up conversation, and drive them to closure.

  • Own UAT, including test scenarios, coordination of client and internal testing, triage of feedback into actionable change, and sign-off.

  • Build and maintain regression packs as the platform grows; identify what should be automated and make the case for it.

  • Feed quality signal back into the process: recurring defect patterns, gaps in specification, areas of the platform that need attention before they become incidents.

Delivery
  • Work through the full cycle with product and engineering: refinement, planning, sizing, acceptance.

  • Keep a groomed, prioritised backlog with requirements traceable from business needs through test coverage to shipped features.

  • Hold the release gate for your workstream: know what's been tested, what hasn't, and what risk we're carrying if we ship anyway.

  • Own getting requirements, delivery and testing into a state an agentic SDLC can run on: specifications and domain context structured so coding agents can build from them without ambiguity, acceptance criteria written as executable checks rather than prose, and test cases maintained in a form agents can generate against and run.

Communication
  • Act as the translation layer between technical and non-technical audiences in demos, walkthroughs and sign-offs.

  • Produce documentation that stands on its own without you in the room.

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years as a Business Analyst in fintech, RegTech, banking or enterprise SaaS - or an equivalently analytical environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to convert vague business problems into structured, testable requirements.

  • Strong analytical fluency - SQL or equivalent, spreadsheet comfort, sound data judgement.

  • Clear, structured written, visual and verbal communication. You can write a spec a developer trusts and a summary an executive reads.

  • Process modelling capability (BPMN, UML or equivalent) and fluency with Jira, Confluence and diagramming tools.

  • You've already built AI agents or workflows that automate parts of your existing work.

  • AML, KYC, sanctions or financial crime exposure is a strong plus. Graph data models (Neo4j), API-first products or AWS familiarity is a plus.

Why Newton Russell

  • You want to build in person. We move faster together and invest in the office as the heartbeat of the team.

  • You want high ownership and high trust. Ship fast. Learn fast. Repeat.

  • You want to work at the intersection of financial services and cutting-edge RegTech with real scope to shape the GTM function.

  • A culture built on trust, learning, and solving genuinely hard problems that matter to financial institutions worldwide
